What to expect when having preventative maintenance performed on a oil fired furnace


Heating Maintenance for Oil Furnaces
Due to soot build-up, oil-burning furnaces need more maintenance than gas furnaces, and should be cleaned and checked at least once during the heating season.
Clean or replace oil filter, gaskets, and pump strainer
Check condition and operation of electrodes, transformer, oil nozzle, air tubes, and pump
Clean soot from the heat exchanger and stack pipe
Clean and adjust draft regulator
Check all safety and operating controls
Check all wiring and tighten all connections
Clean or replace any air filters
(Warm-air)
Start unit ,check full operation, and cycle several times for proper operation and combustion.
Perform smoke test and adjust for a clean fire if necessary
Document all repairs and maintenance
